This page explains how to connect Equity Bank account notifications (Jenga Account Services) so Rental Desk can receive callbacks when payments hit your bank account.

Overview

What happens when a payment hits your Equity account

Equity (via Jenga Account Services) sends an instant notification to our callback URL. Rental Desk stores the payload, links it to your bank account, and can queue it for reconciliation.

Callback flow
  1. Tenant pays into your Equity account.
  2. Equity sends a callback notification to Rental Desk.
  3. Rental Desk stores the event and shows it in the Equity Bank screen.
  4. If auto-reconcile is enabled, the entry is queued for matching.
  5. Reconciliation auto-match (or a user) links it to the correct tenant/invoice.

Requirements

What you need to enable from Equity

Equity supports callbacks through Jenga Account Services. Ask your bank contact to enable instant account notifications for your account.

From Equity / Jenga
  • Account services with instant notifications enabled.
  • Test environment (UAT) access if available.
  • Confirmation of allowed callback domains or IP whitelisting rules.
  • Any reference format they will send in the payload.
From you (client)
  • Your Equity bank account number(s).
  • Your preferred payment reference format (invoice or shop number).
  • Primary contact for testing and confirmation.

Steps to activate Equity callbacks

Share the details below with your Equity/Jenga contact. We will confirm receipt with a test callback before going live.

Method: POST (JSON payload)
Auth: Basic Auth (username + password provided by Rental Desk)
Expected response: HTTP 200 with JSON status

We will provide the exact Basic Auth credentials during onboarding.

Reference format (recommended)
  • Use Invoice Number or Shop/Unit Number in the payment reference.
  • Example: INV-1045 or SHOP-12 or UNIT-A4.
  • This helps the auto-match service reconcile payments faster.
Testing checklist
1) UAT callback test
  • Send a test credit notification from Equity.
  • We confirm the event appears in Equity Bank -> Events.
  • We verify the account number maps to the correct bank.
2) Reconciliation test
  • Use a known reference (invoice or shop number).
  • Auto-match or manual reconciliation links it to a tenant.
  • Confirm the payment reflects on the tenant ledger.

FAQ

Common questions

Is this the same as M-PESA callbacks?

Very similar. M-PESA uses Daraja endpoints, Equity uses Jenga Account Services. The result is the same: a callback notification when money is received.

What if the reference is missing?

We still store the event, but matching becomes manual. We recommend using a clear invoice or shop reference on every payment.

Where do I see the callbacks?

Inside the admin dashboard: go to Equity Bank to view all incoming notifications and payloads.

Can you auto-post payments?

Yes, after validation. We can enable auto-reconcile so credits immediately queue for matching and posting.
